Grading System
Schools and Universities in Vietnam use a 10-point grading scale, where 10 is regarded as the highest and 0 is the lowest. The passing grade is 5. The grading system varies depending on educational institution.
10-point Grading
Schools and universities follow a 10-point grading scale. The grading system is as follows:
Students whose score lies in between 9.00-10.00 are given a US grade A+ and this scale indicates "Outstanding (Xuất sắc)"
- Scale 8.00-8.99 indicates "Excellent (Giỏi)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade A
- Scale 7.00-7.99 indicates "Good (Kha)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade B+
- Scale 6.00-6.99 indicates "Fairly Good (Trung binh kha)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade B
- Scale 5.00-5.99 indicates "Average (Trung binh)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade C
- Scale 0.00-4.99 indicates "Fail (Khong đạt )" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade D
- Scale 0.00-4.99 indicates "Fail (Khong)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade F
- Students who "pass (Đạt)" are given US grade P
- Students who are "exempted (Miễn thi)" or "absent (Vắng thi)" are also included in the grading scale.
40-point Grading Scale
The 40-point grading system is as follows:
Students whose score lies in between 36.00-40.00 are given a US grade A+ and this scale indicates "Outstanding (Xuất sắc)"
- Scale 32.00-35.00 indicates "Excellent (Giỏi)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade A
- Scale 28.00-31.00 indicates "Good (Kha)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade B+
- Scale 24.00-27.99 indicates "Fairly Good (Trung binh kha)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade B
- Scale 20.00-23.00 indicates "Average (Trung binh)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade C
- Scale 0.00-19.00 indicates "Conditional Fail (Khong đạt )" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade D
- Scale 0.00-19.00 indicates "Fail (Khong)" performance and is assigned an equivalent US grade F.

Language of Instruction
In Vietnam, Vietnamese is the language of instruction in most schools and universities. However, English is also used.
Academic Year
The academic year is split up into two semesters: the first semester commences in late August and concludes before Lunar New Year; while the second semester commences right after the first one and ends in June. Generally, the academic term in Vietnam runs from September to May.
